Three Charlotte men face criminal charges following a high-speed pursuit and efforts by the driver to avoid apprehension by ramming their vehicle into a Mooresville Police Department vehicle.  

MPD officers responded to the Morrison Plantation neighborhood at 2:12 a.m. on Monday, December 30, after a resident reported a breaking and entering of motor vehicles.

Upon arrival, officers apprehended Jamario Darden, 27, of Charlotte, without incident, the MPD said in a news release.

Two additional suspects were seen leaving the area in a vehicle.

The driver, Latrelle Davon Jenerette, 25, of Charlotte, operated the vehicle in a careless and reckless manner while driving at speeds in excess of 90 mph, police said.

The pursuit, which began on Plantation Ridge Drive, continued westbound on Highway 150 to Paradise Peninsula Road, according to the news release.

In an attempt to avoid apprehension, Jenerette used his vehicle to assault multiple officers by ramming two police vehicles head on, police said. He assaulted a third officer by ramming his vehicle into the driver’s side of the police vehicle, then backing out of the initial impact, and again ramming his vehicle into the driver’s side of the same patrol vehicle, according to the news release.

As Jenerette was accelerating toward the third officer, one of the other officers, who had exited his patrol vehicle, fired several rounds from his handgun in an attempt to stop the assault, police said.

There were no injuries resulting from the shots fired.

Jenerette and car passenger Eugene Boateng, 27, of Charlotte, were both taken into custody without further incident, police said.

As is standard protocol, the State Bureau of Investigation and State Highway Patrol are assisting in the ongoing investigation.

The officer who fired his weapon has been placed on administrative leave, per MPD policy, pending the investigation.

Darden was charged with two counts of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. Darden has a lengthy criminal history and gang affiliation.

Jenerette was charged with two counts of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, felony flee to elude, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon on law enforcement, two counts of felony probation violation, and multiple traffic offenses. He has a lengthy criminal history and is a two-time probation absconder.

Boateng was charged with two counts of breaking and entering of a motor vehicle.

Additional charges may be pending. Boateng is a fugitive from justice in the State of Kentucky for forgery, tampering, and drug charges. Boateng has a length criminal history.
