FROM STAFF REPORTS

A truck driver who killed a 52-year-old Statesville woman in a drunken driving crash has been paroled after serving almost 10 years in prison.

Eduardo Lugo, 64, was released from the N.C. Department of Corrections on October 20. He was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 11 to 14 years in prison in December of 2009 for causing the death of Patricia Carter in a crash on October 8, 2009.

Lugo was operating a tractor trailer for Wooten Trucking when he ran a red light on Garner Bagnal Boulevard and slammed into a vehicle operated by Carter, who died at the scene.
