FROM STAFF REPORTS

Iredell-Statesville Schools officials have issued guidelines for high school athletics teams to begin voluntary workouts.

The NCHSAA has given the green light for the resumption of workouts beginning Monday, June 15. Local school districts have the authority to delay the start and set their own guidelines.

In order to participate, students must submit a valid physical exam (after March 1, 2019) and NCHSAA initial screening form.

According to the I-SS guidelines, all coaches and athletes will be screened daily for signs/symptoms of COVID-19 prior to participation. The pre-workout monitoring will include temperature checks and screening questions.

Athletes are encouraged to wear a cloth face covering when not actively engaged in physical activity and maintaining six-foot social distancing around other athletes.

Weight rooms and locker rooms are off limits during the first phase, which is expected to last through at least July 4.

During outside training, workouts are limited to a maximum of 90 minutes and no more than 25 people can be present. Inside workouts are capped at 10 people.

All fall sports can begin June 15; men’s and women’s basketball can start workouts on June 22.
