FROM STAFF REPORTS

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Iredell County jumped by more than 10 percent over the weekend.

The Iredell County Health Department reported 14 new cases on Monday afternoon, raising the county’s cumulative total to 131 cases.

Among those:

♦ 49 people are currently isolating at home;
♦ 4 people are hospitalized;
♦ 72 people are presumed recovered; and
♦ 6 people have died

Six of the new cases are north of Interstate 40 and seven were in the central region. Only two were in the Mooresville area, where the majority of confirmed cases have been.

Gov. Roy Cooper’s stay-at-home order is set to expire on Friday, May 8, at which point the state could enter the first of three phases in the governor’s recovery plan.

Iredell County officials last week asked the governor to consider increasing the maximum number of people at gatherings from 10 to 50, to reopen businesses that he has ordered closed, and consider giving local governments the authority to manage the pandemic.

The N.C. Department of Health & Human Services reported Monday that there have been a total of 11,848 laboratory confirmed cases of COVID-19 across the state. Some 430 deaths in North Carolina have been attributed to the coronavirus, and 498 remain hospitalized.
