RALEIGH — Iredell County’s unemployment rate increased to 4.7 percent in June, up 0.4 percent from May, according to the N.C. Department of Commerce.

The statewide unemployment rate for June was 4.9 percent. Unemployment rates increased in 99 of North Carolina’s counties in June and decreased in one.

There are 90,347 workers in Iredell County; some 4,228 are currently unemployed.

Scotland County had the highest unemployment rate at 9.4 percent, while Orange County had the lowest at 3.7 percent. All fifteen of the state’s metro areas experienced rate increases. Among the metro areas, Rocky Mount had the highest rate at 7.1 percent while Durham-Chapel Hill had the lowest at 4.1 percent.

When compared to the same month last year, not seasonally adjusted unemployment rates decreased in all 100 counties. All 15 of the state’s metro areas experienced rate decreases over the year.

The number of workers employed statewide (not seasonally adjusted) increased in June by 53,513 to 4,790,820, while those unemployed increased by 24,549 to 246,934. Since June 2020, the number of workers employed statewide increased 376,701, while those unemployed decreased 185,399.
