Mitchell Community College officials welcomed North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) President Thomas A. Stith III to campus on Thursday, October 21.

President Stith toured the new Health Sciences Building, learning more about the facility’s simulation labs and speaking with students. He commended the college on their efforts to train and retrain a competitive workforce and applauded students for continuing their education.

President Stith began his leadership role with NCCCS on January 11. He previously served as district director of the U.S. Small Business Administration, where he made a significant impact supporting North Carolina small business during the COVID-19 pandemic.

President Stith’s extensive experience in economic development and government relations include work with the Michael Thomas Group in Durham and LJP Lab. He served as chief of staff to former Gov. Pat McCrory from 2013 to 2017 and was a three-term city council member in Durham from 1999 to 2007.
