In anticipation of the broad interest in Monday night’s Statesville City Council meeting, the following procedures have been established for persons wishing to attend and/or participate in the public comment time or during one of the public hearings.

The City Council will meet Monday, April 19, at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 227 S. Center Street.

PROPOSED QUARRY EXPANSION TOPS AGENDA

Currently, there are ten public hearings scheduled for this meeting, including a quasi-judicial hearing on Martin Marietta’s proposal to expand its Statesville quarry. That hearing was postponed last month due to a technical issue with the publication of a public notice. Learn more about the proposed quarry expansion HERE.

The agenda can be found at www.statesvillenc.net/agendas. If you have a question about an item on the agenda, please call the City Manager’s office at 704-878-3583.

In accordance with COVID-19 safety guidelines, attendance in the council chambers will be limited. Only those who have signed up to speak during the public comment time or a public hearing will be allowed in the Council Chambers. Each person will have three minutes to speak. Persons directly involved with the requests (i.e., petitioners, attorneys) may be present in the Council Chambers while their matter is being considered.

PROCEDURE FOR MONDAY NIGHT
♦ There will be a table in the City Hall lobby for persons to sign in. Signup sheets for the various public hearings and public comment will be available in the lobby.
♦ Attendance in the lobby area and conference rooms is also limited. Persons in these areas and those having to wait outside will receive updates on the status of their agenda item and will be directed to the Council Chambers at the appropriate time. The meetings will also be broadcast in the lobby and conference rooms for the public.
♦ No one will be allowed in the Council Chambers until their agenda item is being considered.
♦ Masks and social distancing are required, and temperature checks will take place upon entry to City Hall.
