Evans launches campaign for District 1 seat on I-SS Board of Education

Retired North Iredell High School Principal Teresa Evans announced Friday that she is running for a seat on the Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education.

Evans is running for the District 1 seat as an unaffiliated candidate.

“In today’s world every child needs education to succeed,” Evans said in her campaign announcement. “The public school system should be an extension of the home and community where students can learn in a safe environment.”

Evans has been a part of the North Iredell community for more than 50 years. She began her adult life like many North Iredell residents — in farming. She has been involved in tobacco, milk and egg production for 25 years.

She began her career in education in 1988 as a bus driver for Harmony Elementary School. She worked as a teacher assistant, data manger, high school bookkeeper, network administrator, teacher, program specialist, assistant principal and principal before retiring in June 2019.

With 30 years of experience in public education, Evans said she believes all students can learn. If elected, she pledged to rely on that experience and common-sense leadership to get the job done.

As an unaffiliated candidate, Evans will have to obtain 588 signatures by petition to get her name on the November ballot. Anyone who is registered unaffiliated and not registered as a member of one of the two major parties must do that to get on the ballot.

    Who is the other candidate and why is there no coverage of them? Your reporting is not unbias if you do not show all sides.

    This is misleading. Her past social media posts are completely “Ridin with Biden”, anti-Trump and gushing over Obama. That’s fine; everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, don’t lie to the public and claim you are unaffiliated. Blatant deception like this causes you to lose any credibility your past achievements may have given you regardless of your affiliation. You will not get my vote.
