A Mooresville woman was arrested Wednesday following a police pursuit that ended when she crashed her vehicle into a Mooresville Police Department patrol vehicle.

The MPD announced the arrest of Cheryl Ann Richardson, 54, in a news release.

About 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the MPD received an alert from a license plate recognition camera that a vehicle traveling in the area of Highway 150 near Interstate 77 was registered to a female who was entered as wanted on outstanding warrants for several felony and misdemeanor charges, police said.

MPD officers located the vehicle and observed the driver matched the description of the wanted registered owner, according to the news release. Officers then attempted to conduct a traffic stop of the vehicle, but the driver refused to yield and fled from officers, police said.

According to the news release, Richardson fled on Highway 150 and then onto Highway 115 north in an effort to evade officers. As the pursuit neared the Troutman town limits, the driver pulled to the side of the road and then collided with one of the MPD patrol vehicles, causing minor damage to both vehicles, police said.

Richardson was then taken into custody. She was charged with felony speeding to elude arrest, driving while impaired, resisting and delaying an officer, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia, and jailed in lieu of a $50,000 secured bond for her actions during the pursuit.

Richardson was also served with the outstanding warrants charging her with felony larceny, two counts of misdemeanor larceny and second-degree trespass. She received an additional $25,000 secured bond on those charges.
