Surrounded by his immediate family, Tony (Anthony) Putnam went to be with Jesus on February 19, 2020, after battling leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. He was 52. Full of faith and hope, he courageously and without complaint sought after ways to win this war against cancer. To the very end, he never lost sight that his Heavenly Father was in control, even when it did not make sense.

Tony was born on April 9, 1967, in Seneca, S.C., to Anthony and Lois Putnam. He was raised in Easley, S.C., with his younger brother, Tracy. After graduating from high school, Tony furthered his education in college where he met his wife Kerry. They were married after completing their bachelor’s degrees. Tony then continued pursuing his education and received a Masters of Divinity in Memphis, Tenn.

Since Tony was in college, he has served in summer mission programs and student and children ministries in South Carolina and Tennessee. Upon completion of his masters degree, he worked in positions as a student pastor and co-pastor at churches in Alabama and Florida. Most recently, he was the associate senior pastor of Rocky Mount Church in Mooresville, N.C. With steadfast and unwavering love for God, Tony devoted his life to serving Christ so that people could have a personal relationship with Him.

Tony’s favorite things in life, besides leading people to Jesus, were the Clemson Tigers, working in the yard, woodworking, and spending time with his wife Kerry, son Stephen, and daughters Ashlee and Kaylee. Of all the people he touched, his most proud achievement was the investment of time that he always gave to his family. He loved them and being with them with all of his heart.

The family would like to invite you to Tony’s Celebration of Life on March 20 at 2 p.m. at Rocky Mount Church in Mooresville. To honor Tony’s personality and attitude, this service will be casual and filled with worship music to reflect his deep love of Jesus. If you would like to show your appreciation for Tony, in place of flowers, he requested help supporting his family through financial gifts as they navigate this difficult time.
