Shirley William Dunlap, 87, of Stony Point, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, April 21, 2020, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born on Wednesday, May 25, 1932, in Iredell County. He was the son of the late Paul Macy Dunlap Sr. and Ruth Witherspoon Dunlap.

He served in the United States Army. Shirley was a member of Friendly Chapel Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, was a member of the Scott Community Chorus, and Dunlap Family Singers.

In addition to his parents, Shirley was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Shirley is survived by, his wife, Rev. Modean Howard Dunlap of the home, two sons, William Bernard Dunlap and Eric Eugene Dunlap, both of Stony Point; one daughter, Donna Dunlap Glaspy and husband Ray of Troutman; one brother, Nathaniel Dunlap Sr. and wife Joann of Statesville; two sisters, Pauline Byers and Margaret Shipp, both of Statesville; three grandchildren, Jasha’ B. Dunlap, Bryson L. Glaspy, and Dondre’ T. Glaspy, and two great grandchildren, Brayden and Brooklyn Glaspy.

The Funeral Service will be conducted at 1 p.m on Friday, April 24, 2020, at St. Joesph Baptist Church. The Rev. Darrick Clemons will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service from 12 to 1 p.m. at the church.
