Virginia Dare Archer Childress, 87, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, at Novant Health Huntersville Medical Center. Born July 31, 1933, in Mecklenburg County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Earl McNeer Archer and Effie Lee Stutts Archer.

Virginia retired as the head teller for Bank of America Mooresville Main Branch after over 58 years of service. She was a charter member of Liberty Baptist Church, Mooresville, where she served as secretary-treasurer, pianist and church custodian. She was also a member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Mrs. Childress also took part in the Shearer Presbyterian Church community singing. She loved playing piano and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Childress was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Gene Childress, and her siblings, U.L. Archer, Ira Lee A. Gryder, Clifford Archer, Margaret A. Ewart, Gladys A. Meadows, Ethel A. Johnson, Ruth A. Barnette and Wilma A. Hardy.

She is survived by her children, Gerald Childress (Marsha) of Newton and Gina Terry (David) of Mooresville; grandchildren, Seth Vanderlip and Baleigh Childress; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2021, at Liberty Baptist Church, Mooresville, with Rev. Eddie Graham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church. The family respectfully requests that COVID-19 precautions be taken if you are planning to attend.
