Charles Rodney Roberts, 70, of Troutman, N.C., passed away Monday, January 18, 2021, peacefully at home.

Mr. Roberts was born June 20, 1950 in Pineville, W.Va., and was the son of the late Joseph Franklin Roberts and Bertha Davis Paynter. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, serving two tours. He also was a sergeant in the Army Reserves, serving his country for 13 years. On May 26, 1972, he married Gail Lyon Roberts, who survives, and together they were members of Austin Baptist Church. He also was a 32nd degree Ancient, Free and Accepted Mason in the Troutman Lodge.

In addition to his wife of 48 years, he is survived by two daughters, Angel Nicholson (Lynn) of Statesville and Michelle Grit (Tracy) of Boone; four grandchildren, Raven and Maggie Nicholson, and Bishop and Hylend Grit; and one chosen brother, Johnny Blankenship.

With great love and respect, the family requests a private graveside service to be held at Austin Baptist Church due to COVID-19. He was greatly loved by many and a celebration of life will occur when it is safe for us to gather together.

Memorials may be made to Austin Baptist Church or the Wounded Warrior Project. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.troutmanfuneralhome.com.
