Gary M. Reed, 81, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away peacefully on Wednesday evening, August 11, 2021.

He was born on July 8, 1940, in Muncie, Ind., and was the son of the late Clyde A. Reed and Marian Myers Reed. Gary grew up in Selma, Ind., and was a graduate of Selma High School. He married his high school sweetheart Patsy, and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Gary loved all sports but especially his involvement in Indy Car racing. One of his most cherished memories was working at the Indy 500 race as a fuel man for various race teams throughout his 15-year career. Gary retired in 2006, following 40 years of employment with St. Mary’s Cement Company in Detroit, Mich. He valued his strong relationships with his customers and colleagues and several became lifelong friends. Some of his most memorable accomplishments were supplying all the cement for Comerica Park (Tigers), Ford Field (Lions), and the Detroit Metro Airport.

Gary loved spending time with his granddaughters, fishing in Canada, watching NASCAR racing and manicuring his lawn to perfection, earning him the name “Golf Course Gary”.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Patsy; daughters Kimberlyn Reed of Kannapolis, N.C.; Tamara Caldwell (Dale) of Mooresville, N.C.; son Dean Reed (Sherry) of Fort Wayne, Ind.; sister Jeffra Luce (Mike) of Selma, Ind., and four granddaughters, Avery Trivette (Jamie), Alexis Alexander (Tyler), Mackenzie Caldwell (Gary), and Taylor Gerding (Travis), and three great granddaughters.
