Glenn Monroe “Wildman” Matheson, 69, of Hiddenite, N.C., passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at Gordon Hospice House on Saturday, May 29, 2021. He was born in Alexander County on November 16, 1951, to the late John Ray Matheson and Mary Marie Fincannon Matheson.

Glenn was of Christian faith, and a loving husband, brother, uncle and friend. He retired from truck driving after 30 years. He loved his wife Vickie for almost 48 years. He had a love for his “fur babies,” the Apple City Street Rodders, and collecting things. Glenn always enjoyed telling jokes and stories that could make you laugh for days. He had a heart of gold and always willing to help a friend out.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Ray “June” Matheson Jr.; two sister-in-law, Shirley Webster Matheson (Kenneth) and Kimberly Marsh Matheson (Richard); one niece, Heather Nicole Matheson; three nephews, Mark “Allen” Matheson, Travis Matheson, and Brian Matheson; and father-in-law, Brief Stikleather, and mother-in-law, Kathleen.

Glenn was raised by his grandmother, Ollie Sue Fincannon.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Victoria “Vickie” Stikeleather Matheson of the home; one sister, Brenda Sue “Susie” Webster (Michael) of Hiddenite; five brothers, Bobby Matheson (Teresa) of Hiddenite, Roy “Neil” Matheson (Mary), Tony Matheson (Kaye), Kenneth Matheson, and Richard Matheson, all of Taylorsville; special friend, Danny Lackey (Jeanne) of Taylorsville; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at Chapman Funeral Home at 5 p.m. on Thursday, June 3, 2021. Family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Chapman Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Carson Chapel UMC cemetery.

Pallbearers will include Jimmy Fincannon, Greg Deal, David Schronce, Eric Matheson, Ryan Matheson, Luke Moretz, and Stephan “Chubbs” Williams. Honorary pallbearers are Danny Lackey, Roger Matlock and John Carter Matheson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials my be given to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
