James Leonard Foster, 88, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Gordon Hospice House. Born in Rowan County on November 2, 1932, he was the son of the late Arthur Milton Foster and Lucille Smith Foster.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brothers, Hayden Foster and Jerry Foster; sister, Mildred Hellard; and his wife Norma Tilley Foster, who passed away in June 2002.

James spent his life as a farmer, raising both poultry and cattle. He was a member of Mountain View United Methodist Church.

Those left to cherish his memory are his three children, Cindy Hollar (Phil), Curt Foster (Mary) and Cheri Collins (Dave); seven grandchildren, Dillon Foster, Katie Foster, Blake Collins, Colby Collins, Tilley Collins; Justin Hollar and Gwyn Ritter; two great-grandchildren, Jackson and Julia Hollar. He is also survived by his special friend, Hilma Rhyne.

The family will receive friends Saturday, April 10, 2021, at Mountain View United Methodist Church from 12 to 2 p.m. with the service following. The Rev. Sarah Fisher will officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation to Mr. Foster’s caregivers, Marji Massey, Peggy Rumple, Nancy Ervin and Mary Consentino, and also the staff of Gordon Hospice House for the love and care of James and their entire family.
