Randall Edward Rowland, 72, of Statesville, N.C., passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at his residence. Born in Iredell County on October 23, 1948, he was the son of the late Frank James Rowland, Jr. and Willie Pauline Sharpe Rowland.

After high school and two years at Mitchell Community College, Randall was drafted into the United States Army, where he served during the Vietnam War.

He worked as an electrical draftsman with Duke Energy; owned and operated Groucho’s Beach Club in Charlotte; and was the “King of Charlotte” with Magic 96.1 for 13 years.

Randall was a member and DJ of The Association of Beach & Shag Club. He was inducted into the Charlotte Area Shaggers Hall of Fame in 2006 and has served on their board since 2014. Randall was also inducted into the National Beach Shaggers Hall of Fame in 2016.

Those left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Sandra K. Rowland and her family of Claremont, N.C., and Dianne (Paul) Monroe and their family of Columbia, S.C. and many extended family and friends.

The funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Paul Monroe officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. With respect to the family and friends, everyone is asked to please wear a mask.

Burial will be held Monday, August 23, 2021, at 9 a.m. at Salisbury National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Randall was a kidney transplant recipient and memorial donations may be made to Wake Forest Baptist Health Attn: Office of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations, P.O. Box 571021, Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1021.
