Rev. Samuel “Sam” Ray Jordan Sr., 68, of Statesville, N.C., went home to his Lord & Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at the Gordon Hospice House following a long battle with liver disease.

Sam was born in Iredell County on September 24, 1952, and was the son of the late Floyd and Eula Kate Jordan Hartness.

Sam was a graduate of Statesville High School and Mitchell Community College, where he received his degree in Theology. On January 8, 1972, Sam married Lona McCrackin Jordan and together they shared 49 years of marriage before his passing.

Sam was a veteran of the Army National Guard and retired following 28 years of service. He also retired from Thomasville Furniture, where he worked as an upholster and supervisor for 44 years. But Sam’s passion was his work for the Kingdom of God. He served as pastor for 22 years at New Life Community Baptist Church. His service to God was not limited to brick and mortar but visiting homes and hospitals, sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Sam’s favorite hobby was fishing, and he took time to enjoy God’s creation. Sam will be missed by his family and all of those he met.

In addition to his parents, Sam was preceded in death by a son, Sam Jordan Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Angie C. Jordan; and three brothers, Kenneth Jordan, and Richard and Jimmy Hartness; along with one sister, Margie Hartness.

Along with his wife Lona, left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Tammy J. Redmond (Jonathan); a son, Richard Jordan; and four grandchildren, David Hedrick III (Delibrate), Michael Hedrick (Laci), Nick Jordan and Nathan Jordan. He is also survived by a sister, Rebecca Kay Miller (Keith), and six great-grandchildren, Aaron, Bryson, Josh, and Ezekiel Hedrick and Kylee and Rowan Jordan.

A service to honor the life of Rev. Sam Jordan will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Grant, Rev. Dr. J.B. Parker Jr. and Rev. Steven Hamm officiating. The family will visit with friends from 12:30 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the funeral service.

Burial with military honors will be in the Bright Light Baptist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Michael and David Hedrick, Timothy Miller, Matthew Link, James and Damon Grant, Jake McCrackin, and David Jordan.
