Virginia Blair Glover, 88, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at Summit Place Assisted Living in Mooresville.

Born on October 6, 1932, in Jacksonville, Ala., she was the daughter of the late William Grady Blair and Ruby Alice Smith Blair. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Elton Glover Jr., and her grandson, Brandon Glenn Thompson.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Alice Glover Thompson of Mooresville and Elizabeth “Libby” Glover Grimes and husband Charles of Huntersville, and granddaughter Caitlyn Grimes of Raleigh; and grandson Bryan Grimes of North Bethesda, Md. She is also survived by her sister Ruth Blair Simpson and her husband Gordon of San Antonio, Texas.

Known as “Ginger” to her friends and family, Ginger was a shining ray of happiness and would brighten your day with her smile and humor. She was an accomplished piano player and loved to dance. Ginger met her husband Glenn on a blind date while she was home for summer break from Jacksonville State Teachers College and her heart did a “flip-flop.” She and Glenn married on December 18, 1954, and were married for 54 years at the time of Glenn’s passing in 2008.

Ginger lived a long and wonderful life with Glenn and her daughters Mary Alice and Libby, and lived primarily in Winston-Salem. Ginger taught music and preschool at Calvary Moravian Church in Winston- Salem and was beloved by her students. Ginger was active in her church, First Presbyterian Church of Winston-Salem, and sang in its choir. She had a beautiful and robust voice. Ginger was always outgoing and social and took active leadership roles in The Coterie Club of Winston-Salem with its annual fundraiser balls and events. Ginger also was active in her community Garden Club. She loved entertaining her friends and family and was a gracious host and excellent cook.

Ginger and Glenn bought a lakefront property in Mooresville in the early 1980s and built a vacation house where they enjoyed many sunsets together. When Glenn’s health started to fail, she and Glenn moved to Mooresville at Churchill Assisted Living. After Glenn’s death, Ginger focused on family and playing bridge with her friends.

Ginger’s health declined three years ago, and she moved to Summit Place in Mooresville, where she was truly loved by the staff and known for her witty jokes and sometimes offbeat and extremely funny comments. Ginger was cared for by Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County during the last year of her life. She passed peacefully with God in her heart and now is onward to her next journey that will undoubtedly involve singing, dancing, and enjoying sunsets with Glenn.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held by the family at a later date to honor and celebrate Ginger’s life.
