Elizabeth “Betzie” Ledbetter White entered eternal life with Jesus Christ on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. She was surrounded by her family as she passed peacefully at her home in Statesville, N.C. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and friend. Her faith, family and friends were the joys of her life.

Betzie taught her family and everyone she encountered to always be joyful and to treat others the way you want to be treated. She always put others before herself and was there to help anyone in need. She could light up a room with her laugh and brought joy to so many people through her kindness and positive spirit.

She expressed her love through her stellar baking skills and superb cakes, especially her coconut cake, which people would travel miles for a slice. Her love for baking was equally matched with her love of watching college basketball and cheering on the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Betzie was born on October 6, 1965, in Eden, N.C., to Donald Ray Ledbetter and Amanda Ledford Ledbetter. After welcoming Betzie’s brother, Donald (Bo) Ray Ledbetter Jr., in June 1968, the family made the trip to Statesville, N.C., in 1971 where they would settle.

She graduated from West Iredell High School in 1983. After graduation, Betzie continued to work for her family’s business, “Bet and Bo” before going on to work for Belk department store, continuing to provide people with expert advice and excellent customer service.

Betzie always had the knack of how to manage and help run a successful business, but more importantly how to care for people. In January 1990, she would welcome into the world one of the many joys of her life, her son Daniel Lane Proffitt.

In November 1995, Betzie met the love of her life, Charles “Chuck” David White. The two were introduced by Nancy White Massey, Chuck’s sister and longtime friend of Betzie’s mother, Amanda Ledbetter. Nancy also introduced Betzie’s parents, Don and Amanda Ledbetter, to each other. A few short months later, Chuck and Betzie would marry on April 20, 1996.

In September 1996, Betzie would begin an over 20-year career at Piedmont HealthCare in Statesville. Throughout her tenure at Piedmont HealthCare, Betzie worked her way up to Business Services Manager, where she provided patients and doctors with exceptional service. Betzie excelled at her work and enjoyed going to work every day.

In May 1998, Chuck and Betzie would welcome their daughter, Emma Adair White, completing their family of four. Betzie and her family shared many great memories full of joy and laughter, whether it was in Statesville or at her favorite place, Hatteras Island.

Betzie is survived by her husband, Charles David White; son, Daniel Lane Proffitt (Chasity Proffitt), grandchildren, Danica Proffitt and Jonathon Bishop; daughter Emma White; parents Don and Amanda Ledbetter; and brother Bo Ledbetter.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lane and Faye Ledford and Dan and Ruth Ledbetter.

The family would like to express extreme gratitude to all the employees of Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, along with caregiver Karen Morris, for going above and beyond to care for Betzie’s needs during her final months.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church, 106 Mt. Hermon Church Road in Statesville, N.C. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church.
