Iredell Free News

Always Local. Always Free.

Iredell Free News is a locally owned and operated news website based in Statesville, North Carolina. The site provides local news, sports, features, obituaries and advertising content to readers throughout Iredell County.

The website, which launched on Jan. 10, 2016 as Statesville Free News, is owned by Statesville Free News LLC and operated by local journalists who live in Statesville and have more than 40 years of combined news reporting and editing experience.

We relaunched on November 11, 2019, as Iredell Free News (www.iredellfreenews.com).

The coverage area includes the City of Statesville, the towns of Mooresville, Troutman and Harmony, and nearby communities in East Iredell, West Iredell and North Iredell. Our editors and contributing freelance writers cover local businesses, nonprofits and public safety agencies, as well as county, city and town governments, Iredell-Statesville Schools and the Mooresville Graded School District.

Users do not have to log in to access the content, but can register or submit their email to receive a free daily news digest with links our the latest articles. We do not charge funeral homes or families to publish obituaries.

Since launching SVL Free News, we have been gratified and humbled by the response from readers and advertisers. Visitors have logged more than 4.6 million page views since we launched. More than 30,000 people now visit the site every month, and we have 10,000-plus followers on Facebook. All of these numbers are increasing year over year.

Many of our advertisers have made long-term commitments to ensure our success and longevity. Our Founding Partners include Randy Marion Chevrolet of Statesville, Randy Marion Ford of Statesville, Iredell Health System, Piedmont Healthcare, Nicholson Funeral Home, Statesville Jewelry & Loan, and Payne Chiropractic.

Our efforts are supported by local businesses that believe in our mission of providing free local news, increasing community engagement, and supporting local nonprofit organizations, schools and civic groups dedicated to improving the quality of life for all residents of the communities we serve.
