Special to IFN
The Iredell Arts Council will present the debut solo exhibition of local artist Josh Dickens on Wednesday, May 7.

Titled “Dive Into The Abyss,” the exhibit invites viewers on a deeply personal journey through themes of grief, love, vanity, presence, and acceptance, an exploration of how we fall apart and the surprising grace that sometimes meets us there.
“This show has been a long time in the making,” Dickens explained. “I’ve pulled together years of work that reflect not just where I’ve been artistically, but emotionally and philosophically too.”
Known for his intricate collage work, Dickens primarily uses 16th and 17th century book illustrations to build layered, surreal compositions. The exhibit also includes a selection of sculptures, surrealist drawings, and two interactive installations that incorporate elements of technology and internal reflection.
“I don’t want to give away too much,” he adds. “This show is meant to be explored. I hope people will experience it in their own way.”
The opening reception will be held Wednesday, May 7, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Iredell Arts Council, located at 203 S. Meeting Street in Statesville. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served, and the artist will be in attendance.
“Dive Into The Abyss” will remain on view through the end of May by appointment.
