Deana Denette Heaggans, 65, of 306 Garfield Street, Statesville, N.C., passed away at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, N.C., on Thursday, May 1, 2025, following an extended illness. She was born in Baltimore, Md., on May 6, 1959, and was the daughter of the late James L. and Karee Mills Heaggans. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, James L. Heaggans Jr. and a sister, Rhonda Heaggans.
Deana was a loving mother, sister and friend and enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles, drinking Pepsi and talking. She was a lover of music and dancing. She was a graduate of Carver Vocational Technical High School where her trade was Dressmaking/Tailoring. After graduating, she secured a position as a seamstress at London Fog. During that time, we often wondered whether we were wearing something she had a hand in making. As she was always excited and fascinated about flying to places near and far, Deana decided to attend a flight attendant school in Florida for training. She loved it. Illness prevented her from working steadily and prior to her disability, but the work she loved most was as a professional seamstress. At an early age, she attended First Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Baltimore, Md., where she was baptized.
She leaves to cherish the memory of her life, a son, D’Juan (Erica Martin) White of Statesville; a daughter, D’Nai A. (Darius Taylor) Heaggans of Mooresville; three sisters, Vanessa Heaggans and Yvonne (Victor) Ebbesen, both of Baltimore, Md., and Lisa Heaggans of Mooresville; four grandchildren, D’Miyah White, Diyanna Ellis, Dreyon Howell and Demi Taylor; a special cousin, Lorraine Baker; as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of other relatives, and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Friday, May 9, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home. Burial with follow in the Mt. Tabor Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Cleveland. Ms. Heaggans will remain at Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home where members of the family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., but will assemble at the residence of her daughter, D’Nai A. (Darius Taylor) Heaggans, Mooresville, at other times.
