Ray Witherspoon, 93, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on August 15, 1931, in Iredell County, N.C., to the late Floyd and Hazel Jackson Witherspoon. Mr. Witherspoon was a veteran serving proudly in the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired meat cutter for A&P Grocery Warehouse in Charlotte after 32 years of service. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Mooresville. He was also a member of the Mooresville Masonic Lodge #496 AF&AM. Mr. Witherspoon enjoyed fishing whether it was in the lake, ocean or pond, mowing, cutting wood, and cleaning house. He was constantly doing something; if it needed to be done it got done! He loved talking to people and was the official greeter at Bucko’s and a regular at the What-A-Burger. He was a patient man and was an awesome dad.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elizabeth Morrow Witherspoon; brothers, Tommy, Bobby, and Billy Witherspoon; sisters, Irene Huffman and Mamie Lee Witherspoon; and son-in-law, Aaron Barnhardt.
He is survived by his children, James Witherspoon (Pam), Julia Barnhardt, Beth Wright (David), and Alma Wilson (Patrick); brother, Floyd Witherspoon (Phyllis); grandchildren, Steven Barnhardt, Jason Barnhardt (Brittany), Michael Wright, James Wright (Mandy), Trey Blackman, and J. Witherspoon; great grandchildren, Allison Wright, Daisy Solono, Brooklyn Barnhardt, Camden Barnhardt, and Cody Blackman; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 12, from 1:30 to 3 p.m. with a service following at 3 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church, Mooresville, with Rev. David Klinedinst and Rev. Hal Green officiating. Burial with Military and Masonic Funeral Honors will follow the service at Glenwood Memorial Park.
