The N.C. State Highway Patrol is investigating a motor vehicle crash that occurred on Tuesday involving a Statesville Police Department officer who was responding to the scene of another crash.

The officer, whose name was not released by the SPD, was traveling north on Turnersburg Highway with blue lights and sirens activated while enroute to a reported crash with injuries about 7:10 p.m. Tuesday.

According to an SPD news release, as the officer’s vehicle entered the intersection of Turnersburg Highway and Glenway Drive, a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado traveling westbound on Glenway Drive crossed Turnersburg Highway toward Sunset Hill Road.

The police vehicle collided with the Silverado, causing the truck to overturn and subsequently strike a 2018 Dodge Journey that was stopped at the traffic light, police said.

Both the officer and the driver of the Silverado sustained minor injuries and were transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital for evaluation. No injuries were reported from the driver of the Dodge Journey.
