RALEIGH — Two Iredell County residents have been arrested in connection with an insurance fraud scheme following an investigation by the N.C. Department of Insurance.

Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced the arrests of Alyssa Cheyenne Woolledge, 30, of Hazel Lane, Troutman, and Michael Anthony Brown, 43, of Perrin Drive, Mooresville, in a news release.

Woolledge is charged with one count of insurance fraud. Brown is charged with one count of insurance fraud and one count of obtaining property by false pretense.

According to special agents with the N.C. Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division, Woolledge and Brown collaborated to stage a car accident on February 11 in an attempt to collect insurance money.

Woolledge was arrested on May 1 by Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies and released on a $10,000 secured bond.

Brown was arrested on May 7 by ICSO deputies and later released on a $3,000 secured bond.

“Insurance fraud hits consumers in the wallet,” Commissioner Causey said. “Approximately 20 cents of every insurance premium dollar goes to covering the cost of fraud. I’m fighting this by aggressively pursuing and prosecuting insurance fraud in North Carolina.”
