May marks National Foster Care Month, a time to recognize the crucial role that foster families play in the lives of children in need of care and stability. As we celebrate the strength and dedication of foster parents nationwide, there is an urgent call for more foster families here in North Carolina, especially in Iredell County, to help support the growing number of children entering the foster care system.
According to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, there are currently over 11,000 children in foster care across the state. This number continues to rise, and the demand for safe, loving homes for children in need has never been greater.
Foster families provide a vital lifeline for children who have faced trauma and instability, offering them a chance for healing and hope for a brighter future.
Children’s Homes of Iredell County, a local organization dedicated to improving the lives of children in foster care, is actively seeking individuals and families to open their hearts and homes to children who need them the most. Whether you’re an individual, a couple, or a family, the need for foster homes is widespread and urgent.
To meet the growing demand for foster families, Children’s Homes of Iredell County will be offering training for prospective foster parents, starting on June 9. These classes will provide vital information on the foster care system, offer training on how to provide a safe and supportive environment for children, and give prospective parents the tools they need to succeed in this rewarding role.
“We believe that every child deserves a loving and stable home, and we are committed to helping families prepare for the rewarding experience of fostering,” said Sara Dillon, Foster Care Program director at Children’s Homes of Iredell County. “The need is urgent, and we encourage those who are considering fostering to take the first step by enrolling in our classes and learning more about how they can make a lasting impact on a child’s life.”
