A Statesville man faces a felony assault charge in connection with a stabbing that occurred inside a Davie Avenue convenience store.

The Statesville Police Department announced the arrest of Jordan Austin Reid, 31, in a news release on Thursday morning.

SPD officers responded to a report of a stabbing at Rickie’s One Stop, located at 2580 Davie Avenue, about 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday.

Responding officers found a victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. Iredell County EMS and Statesville Fire Department personnel rendered immediate aid and transported the victim to Iredell Memorial Hospital. Due to the severity of the injuries, the victim was later airlifted to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for further treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Officers and investigators quickly located the suspect, identified as Reid in the parking lot of the Hallmark Inn, which is across the street from the convenience store. Officers recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the assault while searching Reid, according to the news release.

Due to the extensive crime scene, traffic in the area was detoured during the investigation, police said.

According to witness statements and surveillance video footage, Reid and the victim were involved in a physical altercation inside Rickie’s One Stop. During the altercation, Reid stabbed the victim multiple times, police said.

The victim fled the store but was pursued by Reid, who continued the assault in the parking lot, according to the news release.

After the victim collapsed in the roadway, Reid returned to the Hallmark Inn, police said. He was taken into custody without incident.

A search warrant executed on Reid’s room at the Hallmark Inn led to the discovery of additional evidence connected to the assault, police said.

The victim remains in critical but stable condition on Thursday morning.

Reid has been charged in connection with the assault and was taken before a magistrate, where he received a $25,000 secured bond.
