Frenchie Denise Lackey Flowers, 53, of Charlotte, N.C., and formerly of Kansas City, Mo., Leavenworth, Kan., and Statesville, N.C., passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025, surrounded by her husband and stepchildren.

She was born August 19, 1971, in Statesville, daughter of Michael and Cathy Lackey. Frenchie grew up as an Army brat, spending time in Ft. Bragg, N.C., and Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., where she was the commander of the JROTC at Leavenworth High School. She went on to attend Kansas State University, majoring in Finance and becoming life-long friends with Liz Vanelli. She was constantly pursuing education throughout her life, pursuing a master’s degree and achieving multiple certifications, lastly from the University of Cambridge, Cambridge England.

Her careers spanned many iterations, beginning as a 911 operator, then Police Officer in Leavenworth. Then she entered the world of financial management with Sprint Corporation in Kansas City, Mo.

Seeking a change of scenery, she sought her fortune in Charlotte, accepting a position as a Business Analyst at the corporate headquarters of Family Dollar Stores.

In a self-described moment of homesickness, she sought out the guy with a Kansas Jayhawk on his truck at the office and stumbled upon a “good Kansas boy.” After three failed wedding proposals, Frenchie did things her way, and asked Jason Flowers to be her husband.

In a ceremony attended by her parents and Jason’s children, Shelby and Alex Flowers, they were wed on July 24, 2013.

Frenchie went on to be the Manager of Supplier Diversity at Time-Warner Cable and subsequently accepted a position as a Business Manager with TIAA.

They made their home together in Charlotte, loving members of the Flowers, Lackey and McCall families.

Frenchie was preceded in death by her mother, Cathy (McCall) Lackey, and her brother, Michael Bruce Lackey Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Jason Paul Flowers, father Michael Bruce Lackey Sr., her stepchildren Shelby and Alex Flowers, her brother Ronald Lackey, and many other family members and loved ones.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 noon on Thursday, May 29, at the First Baptist Church, Statesville, 464 Garfield Street, Statesville, NC 28677. The funeral services will commence at 12 noon at the church.

Frenchie will be deeply missed by her friends and family, but the lasting memory of her iron will, style, wit and love will live on in all of us who knew and loved her dearly.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are encouraged to the Breakthrough T1D foundation (formerly JDRF), National Kidney Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Cavin-Cook Funeral Home & Crematory, Mooresville, is serving the Flowers family. Condolences may be made to the family at www.cavin-cook.com.
