Rickey Monroe Hobbs passed away peacefully at the age of 74 on May 29, 2025. Born on March 30, 1951, in Iredell County, N.C., he was the cherished son of the late Henry Monroe Hobbs and Myrtle Louise Jetton Hobbs.

Rickey dedicated much of his life to serving others, most recently as a woodworking instructor at the N.C. Department of Corrections in Taylorsville. He was known for his patience and passion for imparting his skills and love for woodworking to his students. His earlier career included a supervisory role at Kewaunee Scientific and part-time work with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Beyond his professional life, Rickey cultivated a profound love for nature and enjoyed participating in King Mackerel Fishing Tournaments. He often spent treasured days at the beach, where he embraced the joy of dancing to beach music. Rickey also shared his enthusiasm for soccer by coaching teams when his sons were young, fostering a sense of community and teamwork.

Rickey will be remembered fondly by many, including his faithful companion, Joyce Earnhardt; his son, Justin Ryan Hobbs; his sister, Debbie L. Hobbs; and his treasured grandchildren, Jaycee and Corbin Hobbs. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Donavon “Luke” Hobbs.

A celebration of Rickey’s life will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville, where friends and family will gather to honor his memory and the impact he made on those around him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, in recognition of Rickey’s caring spirit.

Rickey will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
