With the American Heart Association’s focus on building a Nation of Lifesavers and increasing CPR education and awareness for adults and teens nationwide, Randy Marion Automotive Group saw a need in Mooresville to make sure the youngest members of the community are also receiving immediate care should they suffer a sudden cardiac arrest.
In late May, the dealership owner provided 155 American Heart Association Infant Anytime CPR Training Kits to Iredell Health System for distribution at The Birth Place at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
“According to the American Heart Association, more than 23,000 children experience cardiac arrest each year; nearly 20 percent are infants. These Infant CPR kits will be distributed to our new parents at The Birth Place during prenatal classes or with the discharge process,” said Sharon Paul, director of The Birth Place at Iredell Memorial Hospital. “The AHA Infant CPR kits provided by Randy Marion give parents safety information and an infant manikin to help them prepare for an emergency.”
Of the 350,000 sudden cardiac arrests that occur outside of a hospital annually, 90 percent are fatal. CPR, especially if performed immediately, can double or triple a person’s chance of survival.
