The Mooresville-Lake Norman Rotary Club held its annual leadership and planning retreat on Saturday, June 14, bringing together local rotary members to set priorities for the coming 2025-2026 year and reaffirm their commitment to community service.

Hosted at the home of outgoing President Sonny Morton, the half-day event focused on enhancing Rotary’s local impact through expanded service projects, increased community engagement, and a renewed emphasis on leadership development.

The retreat, guided by President-Elect Ann Nivens, and members Wesley Carter, and Cathy Johansen drew strong participation and lively discussion.

“The Mooresville-Lake Norman Rotary Club is growing, and the energy evident in this retreat means more opportunities for service and fellowship than we have seen in quite a while. It is going to be an exciting year,” Morton said.

Key areas of focus included improving club visibility, increasing membership involvement, and supporting impactful service initiatives – from healthcare access and veterans’ assistance to scholarships and youth programs. Board members identified practical next steps and laid the groundwork for new outreach campaigns and volunteer opportunities.

“This retreat left me inspired and energized,” Nivens said. “The ideas we generated reflect not only our passion for service but our commitment to being a visible, active force in the community. I’m excited to lead the club into a year of meaningful action and renewed connection.”

The retreat concluded with a word cloud activity, where members contributed single words that captured their hopes for the year ahead. “Service,” “connection,” “growth,” and “impact” were among the most prominent.

The Mooresville-Lake Norman Rotary Club is part of Rotary International, a global service organization with over 1.4 million members worldwide. Locally, the club meets every Tuesday at noon in downtown Mooresville and is involved in a wide range of service activities that benefit residents across Iredell County and beyond.
