The first class of internal medicine residents at Iredell Health System began their clinical rotations on Tuesday.
Residents will become part of the fabric of Iredell County as they integrate into local neighborhoods – living and shopping in our communities. The program was approved for 21 total residents over the course of three years, with each class consisting of seven residents.
Iredell Health System is excited to welcome these talented, bright individuals:
Nunta Campbell, MD
♦ Medical School: Oceania University of Medicine, Samoa Campus
♦ Background: Campbell grew up in Thailand and has served as a registered nurse in acute care for over 11 years, a nurse practitioner for nine years, and is now pursuing her residency training in internal medicine. During her residency she plans to refine her decision-making skills, and grow into a well-rounded, skilled and compassionate doctor.
Aparna Jayaram, MD
♦ Medical School: Ross University School of Medicine, St. Michaels, Barbados
♦ Background: Jayaram grew up in Montgomery County, Md. Growing up in the suburbs, she saw the positive impact of having a strong support system from multi-generations living under one roof. During her clerkships in urban Chicago, she worked with underserved populations. She wants to be part of a residency program that encourages doctors to maintain an empathetic ear, promotes quality communication, and fosters a culture of patient education.
Vihoale Kpadenou, MD
♦ Medical School: Washington University of Health and Sciences, San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, Belize
♦ Background: Kpadenou grew up in a rural village in Togo, West Africa. At the age of 13 she moved to the United States. Her desire to pursue medicine stems from her fascination with science. She loves learning about medicine from every angle. She wants to be involved in every step with her patients. She is excited to see patients from all walks of life.
Juliana Namutebi, MD
♦ Medical School: Gulu University Faculty of Medicine, Gulu, Uganda
♦ Background: When Namutebi relocated to the United States, she was preparing for her licensing exams and was accepted to complete her master’s degree in clinical addiction. During this time, she was able to meet and provide care for many underserved communities. Her recent rotations have further broadened her exposure to world class internal medicine and her desire to provide care for the underserved.
Akshay Varsani, MD
♦ Medical School: Ross University School of Medicine, St. Michaels, Barbados
♦ Background: Varsani lived abroad until the age of 12. He grew up in South Florida and attended the University of Florida. He has learned compassion that has provided growth and opportunities from his attendings and intends to bring these qualities to contribute to his residency.
Yan Fei Wang, DO
♦ Medical School: Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Erie, Pa.
♦ Background: After being a young immigrant, Fei Wang’s path to medical school has been distinctly nontraditional. He spent several years working in his family’s Chinese restaurant after completing his undergraduate education. He is excited about the breadth of opportunities available to him during residency and looks forward to establishing his foundation as a physician.
XiXi Yi, DO
♦ Medical School: Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine, Buies Creek, NC
♦ Background: Yi was born and raised in China. During residency, she is looking forward to building her procedural skills and her scholarly work to expand on what she completed during her medical research. She has a deep calling to serve and advocate for the most vulnerable patients and further her osteopathic manipulative medicine skills.
