Barbara Wier Jenkins, 95, of Taylorsville, N.C., departed for her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 3, 2025. She was born in Taylorsville on December 3, 1929. She was the only child of the late Frank and Johnsie Wier.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Paul P. Jenkins; three infant grandchildren; son-in-law, Dale Gunter; and daughter-in-law, Lisa Jenkins.
Surviving to honor and cherish her memory are two sons, William “Bill” Jenkins, and wife Elaine of Huntersville, and Robert “Bob” Jenkins of Taylorsville; three daughters, Gwen Jenkins, Susan Jenkins, and Nancy Gunter, all of Taylorsville; three grandchildren, Brad Jenkins of Durham, Amanda Clement and husband Bobby, and Nicole Summerlin, all of Taylorsville; three great-grandchildren, Addison and Piper Clement, and Hayden Summerlin; and a special family friend she referred to as a “bonus son,” Lynn Brown, all of Taylorsville.
Barbara was a member of Taylorsville Presbyterian Church and former member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She graduated from Taylorsville High School and in later years earned an associate degree in drafting at Caldwell Community College. Having five children, Barbara began her working career as a homemaker. Following that role, her working years were somewhat diverse. From running the local License Plate Agency and the Alexander Credit Bureau, to hostess at Harbor Inn Seafood and various opportunities within the local furniture industry, Barbara welcomed challenges and was always persistent in achieving success.
Barbara loved the outdoors. More specifically, she loved spending time on Lake Hickory, where for many years she had a permanent spot at Lake Hickory Camp Ground for her camper and a pontoon boat to ride the lake. She also enjoyed many genres of music, singing, and playing the piano or organ. Baking cakes and cookies, watching birds in her yard, reading, and visits with family and friends were some of her simple pleasures in life.
Visitation will be from 4 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Adams Funeral Home. Immediately thereafter, services will be conducted at Taylorsville Presbyterian Church with burial following at the Taylorsville City Cemetery. Rev. Paul Sink will officiate. Pallbearers will include members of Lee Masonic Lodge in Taylorsville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either Taylorsville Presbyterian Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 507, Taylorsville NC, 28681 or Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville NC, 28625.
