Martin Eugene Oehler Jr., beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, at the age of 82, surrounded by loved ones. He is the son of the late Martin E. “Buster” Oehler and Janie Monteith Oehler.
Martin was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 50 years, Christine Crisp Oehler, whose memory remained close to his heart every day since her passing. Martin was also preceded in death by his brother, William “Billy” N. Oehler.
A man of deep faith, unwavering integrity, and quiet generosity, Martin lived a life full of purpose and service. He is survived by his son, Matt Oehler, and daughter, Melanie Cruse. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Haley (Matt) Sinnes, Hannah Oehler, Talon Cruse, Chase Oehler, and Matthew Oehler. His legacy lives on through his great-grandchildren, Joseph and Olivia Sinnes, who brought him endless joy in his later years, and his sister, Patsy Oehler. Martin also leaves behind a very special friend, Jean Robinette White, whose companionship and kindness were a true blessing in his life.
Martin was a long-standing and dedicated member of the Derita Masonic Lodge #715, where he formed lifelong friendships and lived out the Masonic values of brotherhood, charity, and truth. His work with the Oasis Shriners was another profound calling in his life. He gave generously of his time and energy to the Shriners’ mission of helping children in need, earning accolades and respect for his tireless commitment and leadership. He was a member and past captain of the Keystone Kops. He was also a member of the Robbinsville Shrine Club, Past Captains Club and the Royal Order of Jesters Charlotte Court 109.
Shriners Children’s Greenville recognized Martin’s lifelong commitment to his community and the children the hospital serves when it unveiled the Cris and Martin Oehler Auditorium on April 15, 2022. The Oehler Auditorium remains a space where physicians advance their skills and knowledge, and patients’ achievements are celebrated.
In addition to his philanthropic and fraternal commitments, Martin was a visionary entrepreneur. As a founder of Charlotte Scale, he built the company from the ground up more than 50 years ago. Under his leadership, Charlotte Scale grew to become a trusted name in precision measurement solutions, serving industries across the Carolinas and beyond. His values of excellence, customer service, and innovation remain the cornerstone of the company’s continued success to this day.
A service to celebrate Martin’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church, 1600 West Mallard Creek Church Road, Charlotte, N.C., with Rev. Rob Watkins and Rev. Charles Young officiating. This church was a place that nurtured his spirit and welcomed him in faith and fellowship. The family will receive friends from 12 until 2 p.m. prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Graveside rites will follow the service in the church cemetery.

Those who knew Martin know that he was passionate about his cars, especially his Corvettes, and promoted many car shows. Weather permitting, you are encouraged to drive one of your classics in honor of Martin.

Martin Eugene Oehler, Jr. was a man who led by example, loved without reservation, and left every place he touched better than he found it. His life was one of service, strength, and sincere kindness — and the impact he made will be felt for generations to come.
