Pauline “Penny” Helen Stafford, 68, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Monday, July 7, 2025, at Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital.
Born January 10,1957 in Flint, Mich., to the late Jimmy Rodger “Cotton” and Dorothy Yost Stafford, her daddy stated, “she was as pretty as a shiny new penny.”
After graduating from MHS in 1975, she achieved a Business Associates degree and began her 40-plus year career with Duke Energy.
She had a God-given talent for playing piano, and she shared that talent by playing for MHS chorus her Junior and Senior years. Later she used that talent in several local churches, Troutman Church of God, Paw Creek Church of God, Fairview Methodist, and Southside Baptist, where many long and lasting friendships began. Many weddings, funerals, homecoming celebrations, and Sunday morning services were blessed by her playing.
She had two passions — travel and music — so not surprising she traveled to Branson, Pigeon Forge, and Myrtle Beach to hear her favorite artists. Hostess for Sonshine Tours, she was privileged to see Hawaii, Bahamas, New Orleans, and Niagara Falls.
Penny is remembered for her quick wit and contagious laugh. Her participation in pranks and good nature when pranked.
She is survived by her younger brother, David Lee Stafford (Sybil); and nephew, Justin Travis Stafford.
Per Penny’s request there are no services planned, but memorials can be made to: Susan G. Komen Foundation or Troutman Church of God. 490 S. Main Street, Troutman, NC 28166 or Southside Baptist Church 525 S. Broad Street, Mooresville, NC 28115.
