Mr. Richard Lee “R.L.” Sherrill, 94, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away with family by his side on Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C. He was born on October 12, 1930, in Mecklenburg County to the late Richard Leonard Sherrill and Alice Primm Sherrill.

He was a charter member of Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church. R.L. proudly served our country in the United States Army and later retired after 33 years of service from General Electric. R.L. was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be remembered for his love of gospel quartet music, growing his garden, fishing at the Outer Banks and woodworking. Most of all, he will be remembered for the love and friendship he shared with all who knew him.

In addition to his parents and an infant sister Sara, he was preceded in death by his wife Carol Thompson Sherrill and granddaughter McKenzie Sherill.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sons, Gary Sherrill, Gene Sherrill and wife Susan; and one great-grandson Hudson Hamrick.

A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Toni Ruth Smith and Rev. Mark Pitts officiating at Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary at Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation for the love and care given to R.L. from the staff and physicians at Crestview Health and Rehab, especially Kara Hagen and Trent Rowley, for all they did for the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Williamson’s Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 575 Brawley School Road, Mooresville, NC 28117.
