Loretta Sue Baker Mullins, 67, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House.
Sue was born December 18, 1957, in Lancaster, Pa., to Mary Geneva Roten Short and the late Claude Allen Baker. She was a graduate of Statesville High School.
Sue was a force of nature—fierce in spirit, unyielding in her love for life, and steadfast in her values. She lived with a tenacity that defied circumstance, pressing forward with a quiet resilience that inspired those around her. Honesty poured from her like sunlight—clear, warm, and unwavering. She called things as they were, never dressing truth in decoration. And though her wisdom ran deep, she found joy in simplicity-a flower in bloom, a warm hand to hold, a moment of peace. She was, in every sense, deeply real.
In addition to her father, Sue was also preceded in death by a sister, Wanda Mae Baker.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Stephen Mullins; four children, Jamie Byrd, Justin Byrd, Stephen B. Mullins and Brandy Marie Girrard; two grandchildren, Zachary “Zac” Austin Byrd and Hannah Byrd; three sisters, Claudette Ballard, Barbara Tomlinson and Marlene Baker; one brother, Clyde Baker; one nephew, Colt Ballard; three nieces, Mary Lynne, Kathy Baker and Brandi Nicole McLelland.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 24, at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. John Parks officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
Troutman Funeral Home is serving the family of Sue Mullins.
