A Mooresville woman faces kidnapping charge following an investigation by the Mooresville Police Department.

The MPD announced the arrest of Haley Lynn Ervin, 30, of Mount Mourne Loop, Mooresville, in a news release Saturday.

MPD officers received a report of a possible kidnapping of a 4-year-old child on Thursday and determined that the child was in the custody of the Iredell County Department of Social Services. The child was staying with a relative when Ervin, who is the child’s mother, went to the relative’s residence and took the child without permission, police said.

On Friday, MPD detectives, with the assistance of Rowan County Sheriff’s Office personnel, executed a search warrant at an address in Rowan County, according to the news release. Ervin and the child were located at the residence.

Ervin was arrested and charged with first-degree kidnapping and was transported to Iredell County Detention Center. She was ordered held without bond by a magistrate.

According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, Ervin also has charges pending for uttering a forged instrument and obtaining property by false pretenses.

The child was returned to the custody of Iredell County Department of Social Services.
