Partnering to Empower Families
♦ The Christian Mission: Founded in 1939, The Christian Mission is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty through a holistic, wraparound model of support. From emergency rent and utility assistance to a client-choice food pantry, clothing, case management, and life-skills education, the Mission meets families where they are. The organization’s recently expanded facility at 919 North Main Street in Mooresville also houses a computer lab, substance misuse support, and a senior companion program, serving more than 4,600 individuals last year and preventing over 1,600 evictions and utility shut-offs.
♦ Iredell County Partnership for Young Children: ICPYC is dedicated to improving the early development, education, and health of children from birth through age five. The organization provides services focused on strengthening families, promoting child health, expanding literacy, and enhancing early care and education. ICPYC is the Smart Start affiliate and NC Pre-K administrator for Iredell County and serves as the local Child Care Resource & Referral (CCR&R) agency.
♦ NCWorks Career Center – Iredell-Mooresville: The agency help career seekers prepare for employment through personalized career counseling, job matching, resume support, interview training, and access to training and education services. The Center also connects employers with qualified talent and offers specialized services for veterans, young adults, and individuals overcoming employment barriers. The Centralina Workforce Development Board oversees the operation of all local NCWorks Career Centers.
A Unified Approach to Family Stability
This partnership was formed with one goal in mind: to make it easier for Iredell County families to access the resources they need in one welcoming place. Each agency brings its strengths:
● ICPYC connects young children and parents to early learning opportunities, promotes child health, expands early literacy, and provides families with support services.
“We’re excited to expand our presence in Mooresville and share this incredible space with like-minded community partners to better serve children and families in the southern part of Iredell County, said Lisa Familo, ICPYC’s executive director. “Our missions are deeply aligned—we strive to build strong families and thriving communities. By sharing space, we create operational efficiencies, foster meaningful collaboration, and enhance the impact of our services through cross-referrals and joint initiatives.”
● NCWorks offers career seekers the tools to secure meaningful employment and economic independence and connect them with local employers.
“This new home marks more than a move—it represents a partnership among the Christian Mission, the Iredell County Partnership for Young Children, and NCWorks to offer truly integrated services that change lives in Mooresville,” said Jens Schmidt, NCWorks Career Center leader.
● The Christian Mission meets urgent basic needs while building long-term stability through case management and life skills training.
“At The Christian Mission, we are so much more than a pantry. Our dedicated staff works tirelessly each day to bring hope, encouragement, mentoring, and life-changing skills to individuals and families facing economic hardship,” said Amy LaCount, executive director. “We are thrilled to share our space with two like-minded agencies. Together, we’re building a stronger community and creating lasting change.”
Why It Matters
Studies show that early intervention, stable housing, and access to education are key indicators of long-term success for families. By combining these efforts under one roof, this collaboration creates a powerful system of care that helps families not only survive but also thrive.
