A Harmony man faces felony drug trafficking charges after being stopped by an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputy for a traffic violation on Interstate 77.

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of  Peyton Seth Shortridge, 27, of Cedarvale Drive, Harmony, in a news release.

Deputy W. Wiedenmann, who is assigned to the ICSO Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team pulled over a car operated by Shortridge on Tuesday, the sheriff said. Sgt. Hodges came to assist along with his canine partner Levi. After Levi indicated the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle, deputies searched the vehicle and located about 44 grams of methamphetamine, according to the news release.

Shortridge was arrested and charged with Felony Trafficking Methamphetamine by Possession, Felony Trafficking Methamphetamine by Transport, and Misdemeanor Resist, Obstruct, and Delay a Public Officer.

Magistrate Thompson ordered Shortridge held without bond.

ICSO investigators determined that Shortridge was transporting the methamphetamine from Charlotte into Iredell County, according to the news release.

“The work of our ACE Team and Canine Units plays a vital role in protecting the people of Iredell County,” Sheriff Campbell said. “Their dedication and skill safeguard lives and strengthen the safety of our community. I commend their commitment and the outstanding results they continue to deliver, removing illegal substances and those who profit from them from our streets.”
