Iredell County Animal Services is set to receive a $25,000 grant investment from Petco Love in support of their lifesaving work for pets in Iredell County.
Petco Love is a national nonprofit leading change for pets by harnessing the power of love to make communities and pet families closer, stronger, and healthier. Since its founding in 1999, Petco Love has invested nearly $421 million in adoption and other lifesaving efforts. And Petco Love helps find loving homes for pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations — like ours — across North America, with more than 7 million pets adopted and counting.
“Our investment in Iredell County Animal Services is part of more than $12 million in investments recently announced by Petco Love to power local organizations across the country as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessarily euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, president of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only part of our strategy to empower animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us. We launched Petco Love Lost, a free national lost and found database that uses photo-matching technology to simplify the search for lost pets.”
Iredell County Animal Services operates both an animal shelter where pets can be adopted, surrendered, and lost pets can be reclaimed by their families; as well as animal control division tasked with the enforcement of state and local animal control laws, serving Iredell County.
“Petco Love has been an invaluable partner to Iredell County Animal Services, empowering us to explore innovative ideas and programs that enhance our ability to serve both our community and its pets. We are deeply grateful for their continued partnership and look forward to working together to increase positive outcomes for pets in our care,” said Kristian Hernandez, Director of Iredell County Animal Services and Control.
Since 2021, Iredell County Animal Services has partnered with various private veterinarian offices throughout the county who recognize our differed voucher programs currently in place. These partnering clinics recognize and accept both our lifesaving and large breed dog spay/neuter vouchers we currently authorize to pet families. Since January of 2024, we have provided 42 of these lifesaving vouchers and 133 of the large breed dog spay/neuter vouchers, totaling $19,450. While the monetary value is significant, it pales in comparison to the 175 pets, for whom those vouchers were distributed, being able to stay with their families who love them and out of our shelter.
