Statesville High School celebrated the unveiling of a new playing surface and the 50th anniversary of Greyhound Hollow on Friday night.
The football team made the night more memorable by defeating Hopewell High 24-21 to remain unbeaten on the season.
Principal Chad Parker and Athletic Director Dewain Clark marked the occasion with a ribbon cutting, inviting alumni, school district officials, SHS students and staff.
“This is the first turf field in Greyhound Hollow. The work took place right after graduation, near the end of June and the crews worked hard getting this to a point to where our athletes could play,” Parker said.
In addition to the new turf field, the athletic stadium will also get a new six-lane track.
