Personnel from Mooresville Fire-Rescue and Shepherds Fire-Rescue responded to a report of a natural gas line struck by contractors at 2243 Charlotte Highway about 8:42 a.m. Friday.
Arriving units found natural gas flowing from a punctured line and stretched a precautionary hose line. The utility company was notified to respond.
Charlotte Highway was closed in both directions at Mackinac Drive and Sequoia Street. Firefighters were able to shut down one valve, but the utility company had to use a backhoe to dig out the other valves.
Crews monitored the gas readings in nearby homes. No issues were reported.
The incident was declared under control at 10:01 a.m., and Charlotte Highway was reopened about 30 minutes later.
