Gordon Pershing Edwards Jr., 77, lovingly known to all simply as “Jr.” of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on September 22, 2025, at Novant Hospital in Huntersville with his devoted wife Lorene “Stump” Burgess Edwards by his side. Together, as husband and wife, they were true caretakers of one another throughout their 34 wonderful years of marriage.
Born on October 1, 1947, in Concord, N.C., Jr. was the son of the late Gordon Edwards Sr. and Lola Hill Edwards. He grew up in Cabarrus County and graduated from Harrisburg High School. Jr. proudly served his country as a sergeant in the U.S. Army before beginning at Pinnacle Corrugated in Landis, N.C., where he retired after more than 20 years as a production scheduler.
Jr. will be remembered as a man who found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, tinkering in his shop, and watching his favorite sci-fi and western movies. In his healthier years, his greatest joy was camping with his beloved wife, Lorene “Stump” Edwards, and spending time with his four-legged baby, Gracie, affectionately known as “Tater.”
In addition to his parents, Jr. was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Morgan, and his son, Dustin “Dusty” Layne Edwards.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 34 years, Lorene “Stump” Edwards; daughters, Tonya Loftin (Neal), and Lisa Edwards; sons, Scottie London (Nicole), and Aaron Edwards (Amber); his sister, Fran Whitlock (Ted); and seven treasured grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of Jr.’s life will be held on Saturday, September 27, at Christ Community Church, 615 North Main Street, Mooresville, N.C.. Visitation with family and friends will begin at 1 p.m., followed by a military celebration of life at 2 p.m. In honor of Jr., the family invites everyone to wear their denim outfit as a tribute to the way he lived and loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that guests bring a dog item to be donated to the county animal shelter in honor of Jr.’s love for animals and his faithful companion, Gracie “Tater.”
