Sandra “Sandi” Baucom Harbinson, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025.
Born to William and Lorraine Baucom in Greensboro, N.C., Sandi dedicated her life to her family, education, and service to her community.
Sandi’s life touched many. For 31 years she was affectionately known as the “Band Mom” for the Bandys High School Trojan Marching Band, offering steady support and encouragement to generations of students. She was also a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church, where she lent her voice to the choir, played handbells, taught Sunday School, worked at the BBQ, and served as Children’s Music Director.
For more than 30 years, she was a beloved educator for Catawba County Schools. Her excellence was recognized when she was named Teacher of the Year for Catawba County Schools and later honored as Teacher of the Year at the North Carolina Social Studies Conference.
Sandi was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Harbinson (2016), and by her parents, William and Lorraine Baucom. She is survived by her two sons and their families, Billy and his wife Lori, and their children Sydney, Andy, and Charley; and Chris and his wife Staci, and their children Walker and Lani. She is also survived by her sister, Susan Cooke, and her husband Jackie; and her brother-in-law, Bill Harbinson, and his wife Sandy.
Above all, Sandi’s greatest joy was her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She will forever be remembered as a wonderful Mamaw.
A service to celebrate Sandi’s life will be held on Sunday, October 5, at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. Receiving will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by the funeral at 3 p.m.
