Roy Landon Pharr, 89, of Statesville, N.C., a truly wise and steadfast man, passed away on October 3, 2025, at the Gordon Hospice House.

A native of Iredell County, Roy was the son of the late Grady Landon Pharr and Eva Johnson Pharr. The last surviving sibling of nine children, he was the stern, true patriarch and leader of his family. Known for his resilience, Roy lived by the motto: “I can overcome anything.” He never quit, and you always knew where he stood—there were no grey areas with Roy.

Roy had a deep love for nature and spent countless hours nurturing plants that others deemed hopeless. He found peace in watching things grow and in the quiet beauty of the natural world.

While Roy is survived by many who loved, admired, and respected him, he shared a particularly special bond with his great-granddaughter, Kinley Elizabeth Merritt. With her, he shared his wisdom, his values, and his unwavering desire for what was best in life. Their relationship was further deepened by Kinley’s horse, Boogie—a connection through which many life lessons were passed from Roy to Kinley.

Roy is also survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Dorothy Miller Pharr; his devoted daughter, Debbie Merritt (Ronnie) of Statesville; his grandson, Adam Merritt (Bridget), also of Statesville; and another cherished great-granddaughter, Karlyn Marie Betts. A special niece, Juanita Lackey, offered much love, care, and support during this most difficult time.

Public services to celebrate Roy’s life will be announced and held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625
