Harry Franklin “Frankie” Thompson, 74, passed away peacefully early morning, Sunday, October 5, 2025, with his wife and sons in bed with him. He was born on November 28, 1950, in Mooresville, N.C., to the late Troy Lee Thompson and Virginia (Jenny) Brown Thompson.
He was a 1970 graduate of South Iredell High School. He retired from Lake Norman High School in 2020. Frankie fought a nine-year battle with lung cancer with other health issues along the way.
In addition to his parents, Frankie was preceded in death by an infant brother, Barry Dean Thompson; grandparents, Simpson and Emma Thompson, and Durr and Lela Brown; and brother-in-law, Tony Sherrill.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Paula Wood Thompson; his devoted sons, Matthew Thompson (Ashley) and Curtis Thompson (Kacee); grandchildren, Charles, Colton, and Aurora Thompson; sisters, Brenda Sherrill, Terry Moore (Don), Ginger Gibbs (Mike); brothers-in-law, Stephen Wood (Barbara), Jeff Wood, Michael Eagle; and many nieces and nephews.
His Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 10 a.m. in the Heritage House of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville. Honorary pall bearers will be his Babe Ruth Championship team.
