Special to IFN
The City of Statesville on Friday announced changes to its parking enforcement and permitting systems to better serve residents, businesses, and visitors. Beginning October 15, several updates will go into effect.
Paying Tickets
Parking tickets issued on or after October 15 may be paid online through the new payment system or in person at the City’s Customer Service Office, located at 301 S. Center Street.
Tickets issued before October 15 must be paid under the previous policy. Payments can be mailed or made in person at the Customer Service Office.
Fines
♦ Standard overtime or prohibited zone parking (previously $10) – $15
♦ Fire Hydrant violation – $25
♦ Handicap violation – $50
♦ Late fee will be added if the fine is not paid within 14 days – $30
Appeals
Anyone who receives a parking ticket may file an online appeal within 10 calendar days of the citation date. Appeals must include a clear explanation and any supporting documentation. Late or incomplete appeals will not be accepted.
If the appeal is approved, the ticket will be dismissed. If denied, payment must be made within 14 days of the denial date to avoid the $30 late fee.
Frequent Violators
Vehicles or registered owners with three or more unpaid parking tickets may be booted upon a fourth violation. All outstanding fines must be paid within 24 hours to have the boot removed. If payment is not received, the vehicle will be towed at the owner’s expense.
To reclaim a towed vehicle, the registered owner must obtain a towing release letter from the Statesville Police Department after paying all outstanding fines and must pay towing and storage fees directly to the towing company.
