The SPD announced the arrest of Casey O’Neil Wyatt, 40, of Chantilly Lane, Statesville, in a news release Tuesday.

On Friday, October 10, about 12:50 a.m., SPD officers were assisting a motorist whose vehicle had broken down in the West Front Street area when they observed a silver BMW traveling eastbound, swerving, and crossing the centerline of the roadway, according to the news release. An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop after observing the vehicle being operated in a careless and reckless manner, but the driver — later identified as Wyatt — failed to stop, police said.

The driver turned onto Phoenix Street, where officers heard the vehicle strike a curb, according to the news release. The driver continued despite the vehicle being damage before turning onto Birchcrest Circle before stopping near the dead end, police said.

The driver then turned around, briefly driving back toward officers before making another U-turn and stopping in front of a residence in the 800 block of Birchcrest Circle, according to the news release.

The driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot before being apprehended following a short pursuit.

According to the news release, Wyatt told officers he fled because he had an outstanding warrant. Officers confirmed he had an arrest warrant on a felony stalking charge.

During a search of Wyatt’s vehicle, officers found and seized a handgun, multiple wigs and masks, a lock pick, gloves, flashlight, GPS trackers, and batons, police said. Officers also determined Wyatt’s driver’s license was revoked.

The vehicle was towed and seized under North Carolina’s felony flee to elude statutes.

Wyatt was served with the Felony Stalking warrant and charged with felony flee to elude arrest, felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony possession of burglary tools, misdemeanor careless and reckless driving, misdemeanor driving while license revoked, misdemeanor unsafe lane change and misdemeanor resist or delay an officer

Wyatt was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was being held in lieu of an $110,000 bond on Tuesday.
